The problem
The herd was slipping on the walk lanes after wash-down and lying down less than it should. The previous contractor had drilled drainage holes through the old matting, which moved the standing water rather than removing it.
What we specified
Stud-based stable mat at 24 mm through the standing areas, where an animal spends hours on one spot, and 15 mm through the walk lanes. Cut to the stall pitch at the plant so nothing had to be trimmed on site. No adhesive: butted hard and trapped by the kerb.
The result
The slab was re-levelled to fall to the channel before laying, which was the actual fix. The studded base then carried the water out on its own, and lying times recovered within a fortnight.
